CHP - Cultural Heritage Protection

WHAT IT IS: A non-specialist awareness course focused on protecting cultural heritage in operational theatres.

WHY IT IS NEEDED: To bridge the gap between international law and on-the-ground practice, thereby reducing accidental damage to cultural assets and mitigating legal and reputational risks for international missions.

KEY OBJECTIVES:

• Identify cultural assets and key threats (looting, illicit trafficking).
• Apply basic international legal frameworks.
• Integrate cultural protection into tactical planning and daily field conduct.

STRUCTURE (3 Modules):

• Legal Frameworks: National/international norms and the role of the Carabinieri TPC.
• Operational Context: Countering illicit trafficking, the role of NATO Stability Policing, and "Cultural Peacekeeping."
• Field Practices: Risk management, cross-cultural communication, and emergency documentation.

METHODOLOGY: Dynamic and interactive (utilizing case studies, practical scenarios, and assessment tests).
